DITL 11/20: Adventures in elementary education!

Nov 23, 2013 19:48

I didn't get to do a Day in the Life during the 12 weeks I was working at an elementary school, so I decided to do one last Wednesday, when I went back to the 4th grade (different teacher, though) to sub! 48 photos under the cut, no warnings.

Wake up to a cold morning, and huddle under the covers for a while.

Time when I manage to drag myself out of bed.

Daily writing time, plugging away at stories.

Looks like the weather will stay cold!

Do a little stretching. It's really hard to get a photo of that since my camera doesn't have a self timer, so here's a picture of the view out my window that I can see while I stretch.

My "good morning" face.

I can't resist, and end up browsing Christmas videos on youtube even though it's not Thanksgiving yet. Also I eat breakfast, although I forgot to take a photo of it.

Dishes get done.

Meanwhile, the cat lurks in the background.

Ingredients for a delicious lunch!

Bringing tea to work is kind of a necessity.

Tooth brushing.

Time to go!

Saying goodbye! (And getting photo-bombed by the cat, of course.)

No, it hasn't snowed- it's just frosty on the car! I have to wait for it to defrost.

Note from the teacher.

The kids show up and go to P.E. right away, so I have an empty classroom again for almost an hour.

Check email.

I'm thinking of seeing the Metropolitan Ballet Nutcracker this year, so I check dates online.

Copies of today's work. This represents what happened for the next couple of hours, since I'm not able to take photos while teaching.

Lunchtime!

Cucumber and hummus sandwich.

Reading the latest news on the school systems I work in.

Start writing my note to the teacher about what we've done so far during the day.

Time to go pick up the kids from recess!

End of the day. I finish the sub note- it looks super long, but that's just because I'm wordy and like to explain a lot.

Sort student work.

Time when I leave and go home. I meant to leave at 4, but got caught up.

Mail for me!

Naptime.

When I wake up, I go on youtube and do some Irish language learning. Sometimes this just involves listening to videos of people speaking it and trying to follow along.

Downstairs, Caitlin the Roomie is hanging out...

...and the cat is anxiously awaiting the arrival of his food.

Comfort food for dinner.

As usual, a bunch of emails have come in since I checked this morning.

My starch-tastic dinner.

I mentioned in my last DITL that I recently became the worship coordinator at my church, and part of that is running our monthly Worship Committee meetings. Off I go!

Time when I finally get out of there.

Freshly showered.

My hands and feet get ridiculously dry in the wintertime, so I slather on this lotion like it's a second skin.

Make the bed.

One last email check.

Then I watch geeky youtube videos until I start falling asleep. Good night DITL!
