This is a tale of adventure, peril and child exchanges. It’s not one for the faint of heart. Since my last DiTL I have moved to Asheville, NC. I love it! It is amazing! Today, though, we must take on the unknown on our way to Inman, SC to pick up my son and abandon my daughter at my mother’s home. This is what we call the ‘Summer Kid Exchange’. The adventure begins…
(Warnings: raw beef, surly teens and guinea pig poo)
I wake up. I’m not thrilled about it.
Apparently, neither is Rosie.
So, after a shower I feel…
Good…
Better…
Best!
Next is guinea pig kennel cleaning time while my daughter walks the dog.
Moo is eating her morning noms.
Leaving the safety of our home…we venture out to battle the unknown on the way to…South Carolina!
We pass the mighty Walmart!
Sneak past the siren song of Target!
(I like this picture because, if you are familiar with Pink Floyd’s The Final Cut, you’ll understand that the Fletcher Memorial Home song pops into my head.) :)
We snuck past the Bat Cave because…well, Bruce Wayne was sleeping and we didn’t wish to wake him. I don’t know.
Coming down the mountain. One of many children. -Jane's Addiction
We had to do battle with the Wacky Inflatable Waving Arm Man! He was mostly full of hot air.
We made it to my mom’s safely.
Though, the lake looked threatening. (Or not.)
We came upon a Cranky, Slumbering Teenager. (My son.)
He had a fire-breathing Chihuahua name Buddy to protect him.
GAH!!! More teenagers!!! (My daughter and youngest sister.)
After chatting with my mom for a few hours (and which I promptly forgot to take pictures) and teenagers exchanged, my youngest, oldest and I find ourselves at the cross-roads. Apparently, at the cross-roads there is an abandoned Exxon.
First, we foraged for food and gas before our return adventure home.
The safety of the mountains seems so far away.
Almost there…
Chugging up the mountain…
This beast with many backs almost attacked but I feel it was a bit…um…preoccupied.
The road was tough on some.
We know we are almost home when we pass the Smiley Face Field!
Map View
Ah, the safety of home and the cherry tree that obscures my balcony.
Moo had fun pooping all over.
Rose and Mabel are also looking a bit tired.
I glance outside to my balcony oasis but no rest for me.
Dinner needs prepping so later I can be lazy.
Cook.
Assemble. Meat and Potato Pie: the quick and dirty method.
I now need to sit for a tic. (You know you’re jealous of my Doctor Who desktop.)
Facebook.
Rest. Ahhh.
Pouting Mabel is pouting. She normally follows me outside but chose not to so she is mad at me.
An hour of reading. (Yes, it’s fanfic. Don’t judge!)
Checking in with The Man on when I should go pick him up.
Dinner gets popped into the oven.
Back into my trusty steed. (Which is sorely in need of a cleaning.)
Waiting for The Man.
Home and dinner.
A bit of telly and casual gaming because I’m not a cool geek.
Wait…is that the elusive teenager washing his clothes? I may pass out from shock and surprise!
Popcorn time! Also…
Kindle time!
My attempt at being creative.
The sun is setting on a long and tiresome day.
A quick sneak peek at Rose and Mabel watching telly.
A cup of tea for me.
…and though the adventure for today is far from over, it is going to be boring and consist of more reading and putting Rosie to bed. So, I leave you this fine DiTL evening with a small lesson. Though there were no winners or losers, fun was definitely had by all.
The End.
