Now that the aftermath of Phoebe's possession seemed to have settled down a little, Aziraphale had some people he needed to check up on. Today, his mission was to spend some time with his adopted daughter and his adopted sister

"And for that, she owes you an apology, as do we for not be able to help you more quickly," Aziraphale insisted gently. "But you, Phoebe, don't owe us anything. Unless you want to count getting better, mentally and physically."
"Of it happening again, big brother. When I was in the past... I felt the body I was in die and... it's not something that I think I could deal with going through again. The fact is... she was me in the past."
"No, she wasn't," Aziraphale argued softly, holding Phoebe tightly and wrapping her in a calming aura. "You are what her soul evolved into. And you should take that idea to heart, because you know you aren't going to hear an angel use the word 'evolve' very often. Blaming you for anything she did would be like blaming a child for what her great-grandmother did, just because they share the same bloodline."
He kissed the top of Phoebe's head. "And as for going through that again...there are a few things we can try to see that it doesn't happen. Although I would imagine that it's highly unlikely any of us will ever see Phillipa again."
"If there has been one thing that I have learned during the past twelve years, is that unlikely can become likely at the worst possible time." She swallowed. "How could someone turn so evil that she wanted to help her warlock boyfriend kill her cousins? I could never allow someone to hurt my family if I'm able to stop that."
Aziraphale was quiet for a moment, pondering the problem. And then finally he shook his head. "I want to go to extremes to protect you from this, Phoebe. And that tells me that in fact it's exactly what I shouldn't do. I can put another blessing on that necklace, if you'll promise to wear it. And I can bless the house again, cleanse it. But aside from that...anything at all could happen to any one of you. Tomorrow or next year. What you have to do, siblet, is think of it like any other bad experience. One that you lived through, and one that you're better prepared for now."
"Aziraphale, I'm pretty sure the necklace will never come off again. After Piper did the spell that night... I was losing the fight for my body until you were there. You and the necklace... it anchored me... gave my soul something to hold onto when I was too weak to fight."
She gave him a rueful smile. "We never stop learning, do we?"
"Then I'm very glad I was there," Aziraphale said. "I won't lie to you, Phoebe, I was prepared to take drastic measures to get you back to us. But I'm very glad they weren't necessary."
Smiling back at her, he leaned close and said in a low tone, "Do you want to know the secret of life?" He gave her a teasing wink. "It's what you just said. Learning. That's the reason behind everything, every experience, every hardship, every joy. It's all so that you can learn, and become more than what you started out."
"Considering I kept trying to get every person she ran into to shoot her or something," Phoebe said dryly. "I understand about the willing to take drastic measures and wouldn't have blamed you or been upset with you."
She laughed. "At least there are no written essay tests?"
"Well, you know, essay questions to demonstrate what you've picked up, right?" Aziraphale grinned a bit, and gave Phoebe a gentle squeeze. "You need to know, my dear, that I'm going out of town for a bit. For...I don't really know how long, actually."
"Exactly like that," Aziraphale agreed. "I just...need to connect with being an angel again. Marie is going with me this time."
He kissed Phoebe's forehead. "This will probably happen now and then over the years. I'm still adjusting to living like a mortal, and a decade isn't a great deal of time to me."

"Like before, on the island, when you needed to get away and try to find yourself and your purpose again?"
