Kaidoh widened his eyes in shock. Did he hear what he thought he heard? He shook his head. It couldn't be. It was already unbelievable that The Chocolates had invited the Seigaku Tennis Team to their concert in Tokyo (no one was quite sure what happened there), but what they had just proposed was even more unbelievable.
"Does everyone understand the rules of the game?" The Chocolates asked to the audience. A majority of the people cheered.
"Then, let's begin!"
As they started singing a new song, Kaidoh's eyes were fixed on the large screen that was showing the four young women close up. He briefly wondered if he would be missed if he just went to the restroom… and not come back. It wouldn't be that hard since he was sitting at the end of the row. But then, he wanted to stay for the rest of the concert. The bandana-clad teen bit his lip and decided to stay for the time being. Besides what are the chances of him showing up on that screen? There were thousands of fans at the concert. Surely his luck can't be that bad.
The first pair of people showed up on the screen, and after a moment of embarrassment, they gave each other a kiss. The Chocolates clapped for them as well as the rest of the audience. Kaidoh tugged at the front of his bandana and slid slightly lower into his seat.
"Kaidoh, are you okay?" Inui asked beside him.
"Yes, Inui-senpai," Kaidoh replied, straightening only a bit.
It wasn't until 4 more pairs had exchanged kisses on the large screen that Kaidoh relaxed… somewhat. They had all featured supposed boyfriends and girlfriends or married couples, and the second-year was hardly in love with anyone. At least he wouldn't have to worry too much about showing up on the screen, so he sat up straighter on his seat to watch The Chocolates as they switched to another song.
A cheer suddenly erupted from the girls around them, which almost made Kaidoh jump. Looking away from The Chocolates on stage to the large screen overhead, he caught sight of two young men moving away from each other. But it was obvious that they had just kissed each other, albeit briefly. Kaidoh immediately sank back into his seat again. More pairs of either young men or women (who kissed more enthusiastically than the guys) appeared on the screen. The bandana-clad teen was seriously considering his chances of either staying put or making a run for it when…
"Ah, that guy has the same bandana as I do. And the other looks just like Inui-senpai… probably the glasses," Kaidoh thought desperately, not wanting to acknowledge exactly who was on the screen. He was about to make his quick getaway when the bespectacled third-year next to him gently, but firmly grabbed his wrist.
Kaidoh nearly felt his heart stop. He wanted to wretch his arm away from the other and just get the hell away, but he couldn't move. In his turmoil, the young teen almost didn't even feel the light brush of lips across the back of his hand before it was released. The cheering and clapping from the audience pulled him back to reality, preventing him from tearing down the aisle to the nearest exit. He blinked and looked up to see The Chocolates, not him and Inui, on the screen again as the song ended.
The rest of the concert continued around him, but Kaidoh wasn't focusing on The Chocolates. His hand was tingling, just barely but it meant he hadn't imagined anything and therefore couldn't deny it. Finally the concert ended with an eruption of confetti from the stage, and after a couple of encores, the seats slowly began to empty as people filed outside. Kaidoh had gotten up and quickly pushed his way through the mob. Even when the Seigaku regulars climbed aboard the bus to take them back home, he didn't look at the bespectacled third-year and stayed a good distance away. He got on last, deliberately picking the seat farthest away from the others and hoping Inui wouldn't approach him.
When the bus finally reached Kaidoh's house, the bandana-clad teen was already moving to the front of the bus. As the doors opened, he stepped off after a quite 'goodbye' to the others. He didn't look back, just focused on getting inside. He managed to escape his mother's questions about the concert without much fuss, but hoped against hope that she hadn't been watching it on TV. After changing into his nightclothes, he laid down on his futon, one arm over his eyes.
"Fffshuuu." Kaidoh didn't know what to think. Could it have… meant something? No, the other way just following the 'rules.' His senpai was strange like that anyway. At least he hadn't… the young teen felt his face grow warm.
A soft, rhythmic buzzing sounded in his room, making Kaidoh sit up. His cell phone? But aside from his family, the only other person who would call him was… He got up and walked across his room to stare at the vibrating cell phone on his desk, the display clearly announcing Inui's incoming call. He waited what felt like forever before it finally stopped.
Only to start vibrating again.
As if in a trance, Kaidoh's hand grasped his phone, the other automatically flipping it open.
"Yes…?"
"Oh, Kaidoh." Inui's deep voice sent a strange tingle through Kaidoh, not unlike how the brief kiss on his hand did.
"Yes, Senpai?" the younger teen said again.
The other briefly cleared his throat. "I apologize if I woke you up. But I calculated a 36% probability that you had fallen asleep in the 12 minutes it had taken me to arrive home."
"I wasn't asleep," Kaidoh said, unable to think of anything else.
"I see." There was a pause, as the third-year exhaled softly. "I wanted to briefly address the… incident at the concert, if you are not adverse to it. I only reacted in a way that fulfilled the given request and had an 84% possibility of the least amount of repercussion. I hope that I didn't offend you."
"No, you didn't. I was just… surprised."
"As was I," Inui told him. "I had calculated an extremely low possibility that any of us would appear on the screen. But, it seemed even 3% was enough of a chance."
"Yeah," Kaidoh agreed.
"Then, at least that clears up everything. I apologize for calling so late. Good night."
"Senpai!" the second-year blurted before the other could hang up.
"Yes?"
There was that strange tingle again. "I… didn't not like it, Inui-senpai," Kaidoh quickly said before he could change his mind. "Good night." He shut his phone without waiting for the other's reply and promptly buried himself under the covers of his futon. It wasn't until he remembered that he was meeting the older teen later tomorrow that he mentally berated himself for telling the other something like that. He wondered his chances of the other forgetting about it overnight.
Three percent was enough of a chance, right?
