[Freewrite] Summer festival.

Feb 06, 2010 21:46

ARE WE EXCITED FOR inukai_exchange? Well some of us that is. ^_^

Anyway I literally just got bit by a plot bunny three hours ago and I churned this whole thing out instead of doing homework. OTL I had wanted to do something with Kaidoh playing with those Japanese stick sparklies/fireworks by himself and Inui coming to sit next to him, but it didn't happen. Instead this happened, and I swear I try too hard on the sappy scenes, making them so sappy. OTL OTL OTL

Also I think I always make Hazue sound too young. I mean he's always emulating his brother's gruffness right? And yet, I'm making him sound like a little kid. XD;; OTL

Erm... yeah, some Japanese references to summer festival things here and there, just to make it "authentic" but hopefully it won't be too confusing.

Enjoooooooy~ despite its un-beta-ed-ness. It probably won't be as good as some of the fics from the exchange, but here's my meager contribution and gift to everyone who has worked so hard!

"Hazue, stop running or you'll fall," Kaidoh called after his brother, who was clopping along on his wooden geta.

"But if I don't hurry, all the good prizes will be gone!" Hazue answered as he made his way to one of the booths. Pulling up the sleeves of his yukata, he took out the money their parents gave him.

Kaidoh sighed before following him. In truth, he hadn't really wanted to come so early because of the huge crowd, but Hazue had been looking forward to the festivities. So, he promised to take him while their parents went to the shrine. He carefully stepped between two people and saw that Hazue was already at the goldfish booth, paying the attendant for a paper poi. There was a small crowd of boys who were cheering him on, so Kaidoh decided to move to one of the benches off to the side. He brushed the seat a bit so he wouldn't get his dark blue yukata dirty before sitting down.

'He better not spend all his money...' Kaidoh thought to himself as he watched Hazue let out a yell when the paper net broke completely. Still, he couldn't help but smile. After a few more tries, Hazue stood up with his bag of caught goldfish and counted the money he had before walking to another game booth with balloons. Kaidoh leaned forward to see him better, but to his surprise, he saw someone go up to Hazue and talk to him. He was about to stand and walk over when Hazue pointed in his direction and the person turned.

"Inui-senpai," Kaidoh said softly when he saw who it was.

Inui waved and made his way toward him. He was wearing a black yukata and moved like a shadow through the crowd. "Good evening, Kaidoh," he said when he approached.

"Good evening, Senpai."

"May I sit with you?" Inui asked, gesturing the bench.

"Ah, yeah." Kaidoh sat down and Inui followed.

"How is your summer so far?"

"Good. And yours?"

"Just fine," Inui answered. "I didn't expect to run into you."

"Hazue wanted to come so I went with him."

"He caught a lot of goldfish." Inui pushed up his glasses and looked over to the bag Hazue was holding. "Fourteen of them, I think."

"Yeah, he's really good at it."

Just then, Hazue came running over, holding three balloons and the goldfish bag. "Look what I got!"

"I said not to run," Kaidoh told him.

Hazue handed him the prizes and said, "Can I buy some takoyaki?"

"You still have money?"

"Yep!" Hazue said before running off again.

Inui held up the goldfish bag. "Ah, fifteen. I was close."

Kaidoh looked over to him. "Senpai, sorry if we're keeping you from anything. I can hold that." He reached over to take the bag back, but Inui set it on his lap.

"I wasn't doing anything in particular. I just enjoy the atmosphere of the festivities." Inui turned to Kaidoh and smiled. "And I'm glad I ran into you today."

"Ah, me too," Kaidoh said. Having someone to talk to took away the boredom of just sitting on the bench and doing nothing. Plus, he has always enjoyed the company of his senpai. Inui respected his silent nature and never pushed him to talk. Perhaps it was because that Inui was a quiet person as well. Kaidoh has always liked that of Inui.

Has always... liked...

"Nii-san!" Hazue came running up with two containers of takoyaki. "Here," he said, handing one to him.

"What about Inui-senpai?" Kaidoh asked.

"Well, I thought you could share. I only have two hands..."

Kaidoh let out a hiss and gave the takoyaki to Inui. "Here Senpai, I can share with Hazue."

"But I'm hungry," Hazue said, backing away.

"Hazue..."

Inui put a hand on Kaidoh's arm. "It's okay, Kaidoh. I'm not hungry." He handed the takoyaki back.

Deeming it safe, Hazue walked closer to his brother and sat down beside him, forcing Kaidoh to scoot closer to Inui.

"This looks so good," Hazue said, blowing the takoyaki ball before taking a bite.

Kaidoh, on the other hand, wasn't eating his own takoyaki. Pressed up against Inui's side, he was hyper-aware of the other's body heat. He could even feel his heart quickening and his face growing warm.

He hoped that Hazue would eat quickly.

After some time, Hazue closed the now empty takoyaki container. "So yummy," he said smiling. "Nii-san, I want to play one more game."

"Fine," Kaidoh said, wishing he would just go already.

"Yay!" Hazue said, taking off.

Kaidoh sighed with relief and was about to casually shift over when Inui grasped his hand. His breath caught in his thought, and he looked up at his senpai.

Inui didn't look at him right away. Instead he squeezed his hand gently before slowly turning to him.

"Can you stay?"

With that simple question, Kaidoh realized that their situation had changed suddenly and drastically. Looking at Inui, he saw that his senpai knew he was taking a chance by doing what he did and was nervously waiting for an answer.

Despite feeling overly tense, he nodded.

"Okay."

Inui smiled slowly, giving his hand another squeeze before letting go. Kaidoh placed Hazue's balloons and the uneaten takoyaki next to him to somewhat justify to anyone who might be looking why they were sitting so close together. Still, it made him want to make sure of their understanding again.

Glancing down at Inui's hands where they were holding onto the bag of goldfish on his lap, Kaidoh also placed his hands on his own lap. Discreetly, he moved his left so that the back of his hand brushed against Inui's, and without any hesitation, Inui turned his hand to place it on top of Kaidoh's, his fingers curling into Kaidoh's palm.

They sat there, just like that, until Hazue returned with no money but more prizes. Inui decided to walk with them back home first before he returned to his apartment. Carrying the balloons and takoyaki with one hand, Kaidoh's other brushed against Inui's while they walked home.

Coming up to the front door, Kaidoh unlocked it and took the bag of goldfish from Inui.

"The fish will die if you don't get them out of the bag," he told Hazue, handing them to him.

"Oh, right," he said, taking it and going inside the empty house.

Kaidoh watched him round the corner to the kitchen before he felt Inui placing a hand on his shoulder.

"Kaidoh," Inui whispered.

He turned to see Inui lean in and closed his eyes right when their lips pressed together. It was brief, perhaps considering that Hazue might return, but when Inui pulled away, Kaidoh wrapped the arm not holding balloons or takoyaki around Inui's neck and kissed him deeper. This time Inui grabbed at him, pulling him closer.

When they parted, they were breathing slightly harder.

"Senpai," Kaidoh said, his face flushed.

"Yes?"

Reaching out to take his hand, Kaidoh looked up at him. "Will you stay?"

Inui smiled widely at him. "Yes, I will."

Smiling in return, Kaidoh led him into the house.
