[Thoughts] AU or otherwise?

Okay, I'm just sitting here, writing a (hopefully) shorter piece of fic than what I have been writing. The thing is that it is completely AU.

It sort of makes me want to bash my head into a wall. Someone seriously talk me out of it goddamnit.

Now the way I see it, the Tenipuri fandom doesn't stray too much into complete AU'ness (of course, I wouldn't know because I hardly read everything that is posted). So AU just feels sort of... taboo'ish. Keep it in the tennis world and all. Past fics, present fics, future fics, whatever, just keep it somehow connected to tennis matches, training, data collecting, etc etc.

I've been trying to find inspiration to write, which I have right now, but I realized that they're all for AU fics. The one I finished here (working on the prequel to that) is AU. Another one I'm working on which is getting equally long is also AU. I am working on another that I started yesterday which is also AU...

Is it because I can't think of anything that hasn't been done already? *desk* I seriously... don't want to do this (i.e. writing AUs) because I'm thinking "Oh because it's an AU, I can fudge their characterizations a little bit, but not too much because I want to keep them the same character." Even I don't make sense there. -_- I just think AU paves way into OOC'ness, and that is what bothers me the most. STOP MAKING THEM OOC, HELEN!!! *bricks herself*

Um... something.

*jumbles her thoughts even more*

So, what is everyone's take on AUs? Especially for a fandom like Tenipuri. The GW fandom had a ton of AUs, and I thought some were great. Some weren't. Blaaah~

*stares at her fics for now*
