Hot damn - I went to Amazon and put that on my WishList right after I read this. I've been on a Grimm Fairytale kick lately (some of those are really, truly heinous!), and this stuff sounds like a good next step. Thanks!

i love re-workings of fairy tales, and she does particularly well, but her essays are also fantastic. She spent some time in Japan and I particularly liked her collection of stories in Fireworks

Not sure if you want to try another writer, Tanith Lee, she's been compared to Angela Carter (although I still prefer Carter) but she has a couple of really good re-workings of fairy tales as well.

I read bloody chamber a week ago. It was disturbing, what was actually amazing was that even though there were too many words used to describe the environment everything just seemed so still. The lack of dialogue was so incredibly haunting, everything felt like they were happening fluidly, like time was suspended or something.
