Well... I loved Deepwater Black and definitely read it when I was around seven? But the trouble is everyone's reading ages are different. *flaily hands* OK, at the end of the day, 7-13 is six years: there is hardly anything that is the right reading ages for both ends, IMO.

So, what do you reckon? Anything that might be suitable for someone in that age range sometime, or is it a catagory that just happens to include ages?

I think I'll probably enter anyway and see what happens.

Would you care to read it at all once the first draft is done?

Um... I'm really not sure? I'd write something that's readable by eleven year olds or so, and go from there.

And of course you should enter, and I'd love to read it!

Well, having worked in the children's section of a bookstore before I can tell you that it has to do specifically with the types of words being used (the bigger the words the higher the age level, etc.). I'm not sure if there's a chart or anything out there that would help to register that, but you could probably go to a bookstore (assuming they're the same in your country) and scan the shelves for what is marketed in that age group. Most bookstores will put them in age appropriate sections.
