Hello, hello.
I case you missed it, icon_talk is having a great little thing called "ask the maker" where you can request tutorials and ask icon makers questions about their technique and stuff.

I only read the first step so far, but you can keep the aspect ratio if you hold down the shift key while dragging the edges in, when you scale it in transform-mode. just fyi :)

eta - cool, cool. so you just play with the crop then, there's nothing you look for especially? oh, and you didn't sharpen the image at all?

Hey, thanks for the tip. I feel like there's so much you can do with that shift key. People keep telling me things and I'm always amazed by how easy things actually are, or could be.

Like I said, I don't do close-ups like that a lot, because they always end up looking weird... like people have no eyes or super long foreheads or whatever. When I crop an image it just has to feel right, you know. My art teacher from school would kill me for saying this, but I don't really think that much about the cropping. It either looks right to me or not.

And thanks for reminding me, I actually did sharpen the image. I just wrote this from looking at the old psd and completely forgot that step. I'll add it... tomorrow, because I'm actually just headed for bed.

haha, yeah, I try to do a lot with keys, but some things I don't use often enough I just forget about.

Ok, heh, well you just need to get a feel for it, then things just work.
