HI THERE :D I noticed that you started watching my writing comm & like the creepy creeper I am, decided to check out your journal. Am also a fellow scientist (albeit, an undergrad so much farther down the totem pole) and would love to add you if you wouldn't mind. :DDD
Yayyyy, fellow scientist! Friend, by all means! I have just friended your LJ; I am probably the creepier creeper for just watching the writing one but I worry that people don't want me in their personal journals. What type of science do you do, if you don't mind me asking? =D
pfffft like 80% of the people watching my writing journal don't have my personal journal added DO NOT WORRY. <33
iiiii work in an immunology lab. :D my project revolves around finding the exact binding sequence of a transcription factor on a promoter region & how it competes with other transcription for that binding sequence. UNFORTUNATELY, I HAVEN'T ACTUALLY DONE MUCH WITH IT--been trying to make a single bp mutation in a promoter-recorder complex for the last month and a half and my pcrs keep showing like a million primer dimers & my face has permanently been like this: DDDDDDDDDD8
Immunology, awesomeee! My lab is technically microbial ecology but more on the molecular side than culture side. My project's about gastrointestinal microbial ecology so there's been a very definite immunology bent to the research over the past two years. Basically, development of adaptive immunity and crosstalk between host and microbes. Coming up to my last year now OMFG~ DX
It's awesome that you actually get a research project as an undergrad though. Is that common in the States? I noticed US exchange students that I've taught seem to have more lab experience than locals (it's pretty rare in Australia for undergrads to get lab placements).
