[ To say that the face that greets the viewer is an unhappy one is mildly incorrect at best; the princess that stands with communication crystal in hand is furious and she looks about ready to hurl the thing across the Sanctuary, though she has a little more restraint than that ( Read more... )

I don't think it's up to us.

...I'm sorry.

[Guilt is a hard thing to let go of, and Terra's not sure she can, but there are still other things to explain.]

Anyway...this realm is our sanctuary. The warriors of Chaos can't breach this place. At least, they can't for now. There are many realms, connected by portal crystals, where we can encounter and fight them, though--and mannequins. They're crystalline copies of...us and them.

Mannequins? [ Ashe narrows her eyes slightly. ] What purpose do they serve?

To slow us down, weaken us before we confront our true enemies. However, the Chaos warriors have the same problem. It also depends on where you go; the Cosmos-dominated areas will have mannequins that will aid us, or at least not get in our way. Likewise, the Chaos-dominated areas have mannequins that aid them.

It's not possible to defeat them all; no matter how many of those you destroy, they just return later. The only real good they serve is giving us the chance to study our enemies, since the mannequins have all the abilities of the original person they're copying. Some are also a lot stronger than others, but you can't tell this just by looking at them.

A way of getting stronger, then. [ Ashe glances around the item shop, recognizing the moogles for what they are, though they look completely different than what she's used to. ] And this shop, too.

Are there lodgings? It seems they they have deemed fit to provide us with all else. [ She sounds a little bit bitter at that; if they're providing all these things then they were being made to stay here for a while. ]

[Terra nods, glad to be able to provide some solid answers. There would be few enough of those, given the way this war was going.]

We passed them. You remember those small crystals lining the sanctuary? Those are our rooms. Touch an unused one, and it will take you to whatever you think is an ideal resting place. We never seem to run out, somehow. Food also arrives there, too. You have to use the same crystal to get to the same room, and no one can enter unless you give them permission.

How do we know if they are unused? [ She's taking all of this in, filing it away. If there's one thing Ashe knows how to do, it's consider every single angle, every detail. ]

Because they will work. If they're occupied and the person hasn't granted you permission, the crystal simply won't function for you.

[ Exactly as she had assumed, and she nods. ] What else is there that I must know of this place?

Well, there are other crystals you'll need to know about. See, the realms that make up this place aren't physically connected. Instead, we must use portal crystals to go from one to the other. The portal crystals emit a ray of light, and by walking into that, you'll end up wherever they lead you. It's always the same route, too, so you can find your way around once you keep that in mind.

[ Ashe nods, satisfied. Not only has Terra supplied her with knowledge, but the smaller girl seemed kind, as well. Smiling at her, Ashe bows slightly. ] I thank you for your assistance. Please, if there is anything I might aid you with in the future, do not hesitate to ask.

[The bow catches her off-guard, but she smiles back, that reserve fading a bit.]

You're welcome. If you can pass on such information to whatever other newcomers you see, that would help a lot. I try to reach everyone, but I'm sure there are those I miss.
