As far as I can tell, his reason is pretty simple. He's never fought people from other worlds before, and he wants to see how strong we are. He probably wants to determine whether we're a threat to his people.

Is that so? I suppose that would be a possibility, though it seemed more to me like his intention was to claim all of the territories as his own, and cut down anyone in his path.
