I think we spoke briefly before. [At least, the voice sounds familiar--Locke can't remember if he'd seen a video transmission of the woman or not.] Anyway, there's someone from my world who's important to me on the other side...as well as a few others I've met that I know are good people. So, I'm interested in whatever your idea is.

[He grins, a bit awkwardly.] ...oh, and the name's Locke, for the record!

[Oh, yes, she's good with both voices and faces, so she recognizes him right away. She liked him, too, so that's an immediate point for him, and that gets most formalities out of the way.

She smiles, nodding at the name.] Jill Valentine.

[And now a more srs fais] Apparently, Cosmos mentioned sending her fighters home if they win the next round. My partner on the other side thinks he can convince some of his teammates to help force a stalemate between the two forces--to hold off either side's victory until we can make demands from the gods and hopefully ensure everyone's safety in the end.

Simply put, it's... something of a rebellion.

I'm all for the rebellion part, but... [Idly scratches his chin before resting it against one fist, looking as if he's deep in thought.] Well, even if there's some of us who aren't willing to fight, what about the others? I know for a fact that there's plenty of people on our side who won't go for it. They might even come after us if they find out. And from what I've heard, there's people on the OTHER side that are set in their ways of doing what Cosmos wants no matter what.

I think it's a great idea, but I dunno if it'll really work. We'd have to cause a big enough stir...and even then, the others'll probably just fight around us. Like it or not, people like you and me are kinda the odd ones out. [Locke frowns at that.]

But regardless of all that, I'm in!

There's no doubt we'd be facing opposition from all around--Chaos and Cosmos aside, not all the fighters will want to take this route. They might very well fight us over this. But my partner and I think we can get enough people to counter that--maybe just barely, but a lot of people seem to be in the same position as you and me. I think it's worth a try.

I considered this. I think if we make protecting the crystals themselves our priority--not letting them be taken--it would be more efficient than attempting to meet in the middle and hold everyone back. At least, that's assuming we have enough numbers to create that kind of resistance, and in two places at once.

[Another smile, less polite and more genial.] Good to hear.

This is Snake. I'm listening.

My partner, Chris--he's thinking of forcing both sides to come to a stalemate, keeping both Chaos and Cosmos from getting their crystals; it might force them to listen to us if we refuse to obey their orders.

...

Hah!

So, we just flat-out refuse to play their game until they heed the voices of their people! Elegant. I wish I'd thought of it.

Of course, they probably have ways to simply force us to be their toys if we stand up for ourselves. But at least doing this will make them show their hand... reveal them for the tyrants they really are. I'm with you on this. I'll look forward to it.

[A small smile] It's not the most complicated plan, granted, but it's all we have at this point.

Glad to hear it. I'll keep you posted.

I'm not a group person, but if there's a way out of this mess I'm in. I wouldn't be much of a hero otherwise, would I?

[That gets a small smile.] Understandable.

It requires working with Cosmos' forces in the long run, too--you'd be up for that?

This a cheap trick to pinpoint the traitors to Chaos' cause? [She sounds sincere, but...]

[And she can't even begin to blame him for being suspicious.] I know what it sounds like, and I honestly don't have much to give you other than my word.

[A pause--and then, for trust's sake--] ...I arrived at the same time as my partner--he was chosen for Cosmos while I ended up here--; we've been through a lot together... and I'd give anything to watch out for him. I know he feels the same; this is why he proposed this plan in the first place.

[...]

If you believe that much, know that I don't have anything against Cosmos' side. I don't have anything to gain by exposing the rebels over here, either.

Prove you're not making this up. Who's your partner? What's his name?

You do have something to gain. You told me yourself that Chaos gives rewards to people who take care of traitors.

[She pauses for half a beat--she's normally hesitant to give out Chris' name, but this obviously calls for it.] Chris Redfield. If you want to contact him to back up what I've said, I'm sure he'll answer--he's about my age.

[...Ah, well, she can't deny that, can she...] ...I did. For what it's worth, I don't even know what his "rewards" consisted of, if he even gave any out; and believe me, I'm not the strongest on this team by far. Even if I gained something for outing others, I'd pay for it pretty quickly. No material reward is worth dying for, even here.

I'll pass it on. Just... don't risk anything, okay?

...Who's the guy speaking out about all this?

Don't worry, I'll watch my back.

His name's Dooku. He orchestrated the Cosmos kidnappings a while back.

Hm... if he gets to be too much of a problem, let me know. I'll see if I can't stage some sort of distraction for him.

[A slow nod] I don't know what his abilities are--I'll see if I can't ask around in the meantime and find something out.
