Dooku is a skilled swordsman, and should not be underestimated despite his years. Though it shames me to admit it, he bested me in the last battle for the crystals, but spared my life.
The 'negotiations' he mentioned refer to his demands for our crystal in exchange for your safety. He seems wholly dedicated to Chaos' cause, yet was ill-prepared for us to disregard his threats and take the prisoners back ourselves.
The Dark Side? [If anyone would take an interest in that, it would be Cecil, because of his divided nature.] That is like darkness, I presume?

Yes, I have seen his swordsmanship. Princess Hildegard and I faced him in the first battle and managed to drive him away. However, I feel as though it were a stroke of luck.
[The negotiations gave him pause.]
You mean he was demanding us to hand over the crystal we won in the first battle? I'm certainly glad you refused. I'll wager that Count Dooku was also ill-prepared for the other Chaos warriors who aided in the rescue attempts.
The Dark Side...it seems different from the dark magic in my world. Perhaps it may be possible to turn your negative emotions into power, but I cannot imagine the wielder being of stable mind. Count Dooku may put on honorable airs, but will crush anyone and anything to get what he wants.

Yes. It was a risk, particularly with your lives at stake, but one we chose to take. Even had we chosen to give them the crystal, I doubt Cosmos would grant us it. They're too powerful to be so easily handed away. [The second part surprises him, and he speaks quickly:] Which Chaos warriors aided in the rescue attempt? Was a dragoon named Kain amongst them?
Negative emotions... [Cecil supposes that could be similar to his own abilities with darkness, which draw on the suffering of the user. He doesn't say so, though, not wanting to compare himself to those on Chaos' side.]

I...I would agree. Even if had handed over the crystal, I do not see how it would bring peace, as Count Dooku claimed that he wanted. Whatever the case, there would still be more crystals to collect...
...Kain? I don't know anyone by that name. It was Angeal and Genesis who set me free. They are sincere and honorable people...they truly ought to be on our side. So I cannot understand why Chaos has called them...
[And through his mind flows the question of why, why, why.]

I was one of the captives, too. [she's wringing her hands... and looks surprised to hear that about dooku.] He did? Count Dooku talked to me, but he took particular care to be nice about it. I knew there was something odd about that from the start...

I case it's case by case situation for him, huh? Depending what he wants.
[she's quiet for a moment, as if deciding whether to share or not. eventually she does.] I can... somewhat sense the darkness within someone, within their heart. But he must have been masking it well... especially if what you say are his true feelings on it.

... but the darkness? [she shakes her head.]

The darkness...it can be difficult for me to understand as well. It's certainly different from the dark magic in my world.
