Even though I thought the debate was a tie, and that Obama was not at his best tonight, the polls show that American's thought he won the debate. I guess my standards are too high!

I love Bob, so I'm biased, I guess :)

i saw some of it, and i thought McCain was going to get up and throw the desk across the room or something, he was so temperamental and angry!
thats a big problem that he has, he has a bad temper!
but i agree obama could have been a bit tougher, but maybe it was his way of taking the high road, and not succumbing to such stupid tactics, i liked that obama remained cool and collected, unlike McCain who was very visibly angry towards the end of the debate. thats the kind of person who should be in charge!

I agree, and I think Obama did do well not to take an aggressive stance. Look where it's gotten McCain.

I was pleased w/ both candidates. Barack, because I feel he came off cool, collected, intelligent, and ready to take office. McCain, because he came off like the childish, temperamental person he is, showing the American people what they'd be in for if he were elected.

I don't think that Obama should have been aggressive. That would have gone against the image his team has carefully created. Instead, I think he should have used his eloquence to to define his Presidency how that will make our lives better. Most importantly, he should have been specific about ACORN and Ayers to combat and defend himself against McCain's assertions over the last few weeks. I think Obama clearly knew the attacks were coming (I think he set-up McCain actually), but he failed to reassure people. I think that there are a lot of people who still have questions about his relationships with questionable people. He would have been smart to say something like, "Look, you're running against me, John, not William Ayers." I think with all the planning that went into the debate, he could have come up with better responses.

Actually, in my blog, I wrote about how John McCain was basically going to be an attack dog throughout the debate. He didn't let me down. He did, however, to my surprise, fail to really go after Obama on those ( ... )

I think the polls show that Americans felt that Senator McCain's body language was hostile, angry, and, at times, condescending. That's John McCain in a nut shell, unfortunately. Can you imagine him working this way with the leadership of this country, or with foreign leaders that he might have disagreements with? He's not suited for the role. Period.

As for Senator Obama, I do agree that it was good for him to be cool and calm, but not at the expense of coming across as weak. Polls show that Americans thought Obama won the debate, and that he took the higher road, but there is no doubt that Obama could have done a lot more to come across with more energy and specifics about what he plans to do as President. He spent too much on defense, instead of outlining his new economic policy.

My point is that Obama could have essentially ended the debate last night, but he didn't.
