Geeky rant

Sometimes I think about science--- and it makes me say "why do we study these ridiculous things". I just read an article titled "A comparison of salivary pH in sympatric wild lemurs".   (They actually had a point--- that acidity of diet does not affect toothwear in lemurs becuase they have saliva that buffers the effects... which doesn't really ( Read more... )

Ha ha ha ha...That title would definitely get you a cover on Nature.

Even though I also often read the titles of articles (just the titles, though) and think: ?!?! (sometimes words can't describe it)...we have to hope (not hope, because this probably would not be the greatest thing to ever happen to lemurs, but wonder at least) that maybe later people will start treating mouth ulcers with lemur spit. Or something...
I'm really excited to talk to you tonight and find out what your "real work" involves. I'll bet, if we brainstorm, we can definitely find you a potential cure for cancer in it somewhere.

Heather you are so funny. As for your real work, I am really sorry that you aren't getting funding. :(

I am offended Hazard, I for one am extremely interested in the salivary pH of lemurs. In fact, it has inspired my new side project...buffering the pH of my own saliva so I can eat as many sour patch kids as I want without completely burning off my tongue and teeth.

Ok, so I don't care about lemur spit, but I like Katey I tend to believe that maybe something seemingly insignificant like lemur spit will inspire great things that benefit people. If not, well, I guess at least it satisfied the curiosity of 10 people and made their lives a little happier.

P.S. If you ever write your article about monkey junk in the trunk, please send me an autographed copy because that's a priceless idea!
