I KNOW RIGHT!? I've missed the past two because of LJ outages. It's really starting to irk me. I've all but run out of animated Disney secrets, but I have tons of non-Disney animated secrets (that I don't feel like joining the general LJ secrets comm for).

Yes! Look at the movie from Derek's perspective and you'll see it's also about him learning maturity.

I just watched this movie again last week. Unfortunately this is one of the few movies I can't defend - I just didn't feel any passion from them. I like that Odette was insistent on there being more than just beauty being the reason they love each other, and I'm glad for the sake of the message she stuck to that point, but that's about the only thing I liked about the movie. I thought she fell flat as a character I am supposed to care for, so I didn't, and I just never liked Derek.
I just think it's a terrible movie.

Perhaps people say "he has flaws" more about him because he LOOKS more like a real person than the Disney guys, but other than that, I agree.

What uberta said. And I'm not disagreeing with you, but maybe people like him more because his flaws are a little more realistic? Beast and Naveen were princes, Aladdin was stealing to survive/a "diamond in the rough," and before Flynn even met Rapunzel he was having his own ~adventures~ while Demetri was just trying to find someone to help him con Anastasia's grandmother. His character isn't really portrayed as anything more than human is what I mean. Maybe people relate to his "metamorphosis" a little more than say Beast in that way.

I feel like I was trying to make a point there somewhere, so hopefully it still came across clear enough. My brain is sort of scrambled today, don't mind me, LOL.
