Okay, so here's the thing.
Because sometimes so little people enter the challenges, I and caramelmilk_t came up with the idea of a monthly roll calls. Like it's done f.ex. at elite_disney That way, we would know how many people are still participating in the challenge and are interested in posting to this comunity. I don't like it because I'll just answer the roll call but not enter in challenges anyway because I don't have enough time. I do try anyway, though. When I remember.

I know. I'm not totally in favour for the roll call, I also can be watching the community and not entering for monhts (because I have a lot work to do). I'm aware that it's not quite a great idea and I'm still considering it.

I've actually thought a lot on the idea of the 'roll call' post. I am a member of elite_disney, so I know how it works. I find it a little hard to get all my thoughts about the 'roll call' down because I think they contradict each other a little bit. However, my main, generalized thought is: they are a hassle, and they do not, contrary to popular belief, make me want to enter the challenges any more than I would usually.

And now I am going to give my (unasked for) opinion on the low activity levels. If you look at this icontest as a business, then you will, inevitably, come to the conclusion that the main competition is elite_disney. Both communities basically offer the same thing. I don't get anything here that I don't over there. You hold the same type of challenges in the same way. And this is to your disadvantage, to be honest.

The name of this community is disney_create, but there isn't a whole lot here that is more creative than over at elite_disney. And, for that matter, my guess is that all your members here? Are also members there

Hey, thanks so much for the opinion :)) I actually don't consider elite_disnet as a threat, I found out about this community rather recenly :)) I'm just concerned about the number of members. I don't want this community to get closed because of the situation when noone is interested. That's why we're doing the LIMS are advertising (caramelmilk_t is taking care of this). Plus I always thought that nominating the winners at wd_awards would be a good idea.
About competition... I won;t try to compete with other communities, it's not my point. The point is to make this community interesting and worth interest of the icon makers. I want this community to live the full life. And in this case, this coll call may not be a good idea but still I would like to know how many people are still interested in this community, if you know what I mean. If I did the roll call, I would do it only once, just to find out how many people are still out there :)

As my disclaimer says at the bottom, I wasn't trying to imply you did think of them as a threat, but rather that, generally, people who are members of both are going to compare both. :)

So I think you have misunderstood my metaphor on that level. My basic point was: if you want more members/participation, then give me something to get excited about. As a member of both communities, I find them to be rather the same. As a result, whichever one has the most interesting challenge gets my entries. And I am suggesting that, should you wish to gain more participation, you should work on that. Make sense?

The point is to make this community interesting and worth interest of the icon makers.
<< That is EXACTLY what my comment was trying to stress. If you guys worked on fulfilling that ideal, then you'd get more participation. :)

So, ok, we will have the LIMS which might work. Nominations at wd_awards... Well, there was also idea with the Icon Maker of The month. Or the Icon of the Month. I guess I will have to make more polls, as you suggested. Maybe you could help us with that? Honestly, me and sometimes don't have time to do all this :)

I am in total agreement with absolutelybatty on this one. I am a member of both communities and whichever challenge looks to be the most interesting, I take time to enter. Now I try to enter both because as a person who has made a few communities before, its very frustrating whenever you put effort into a challenge only not to pay off.

A thing that I notice that elite_disney has that this community doesn't. have is premade promotion banners. I think if you have them made up than it will make it easier for the person to promote.

Another thing that is key is more generalized challenges. Such as favorite movie, or character. That way you see more creativity and more participants. Its because when you get specific all the time you will find that over half (maybe?) won't like the topic.

Another fun idea is the pass it on challenge. Where one person starts with a word than the next person has to create an icon pertaining to that word. It garners a ton of icons and its fun. That idea can also be used for character's, movies and such.
