Fit the Sixth, in Which Gibbs Pines, but Only a Little. He Also Grievously Misuses a Funeral Urn.

[Anyone passing the greenhouses today might hear a rusty sailor's voice singing a melancholy tune. If you go inside to investigate, you will come upon Joshamee Gibbs arranging flowers in a rather funereal urn ( Read more... )

[Guess who else misses Liz. And guess who else doesn't like to drink alone.]

What're you doin', Mistah?

[Don't mind her, she's just passing through, killing picking more flowers for the vase in her classroom.]

[Gibbs looks up from where he is trying to prod a broken carnation stem into the mix.]

Hallo, mistress--just making a bit of a present, here, for Miss Swann, should she return. Are you in need of maintenance?

[Because Gibbs, he does Janitorial and Maintaining Stuff. Or. Tries.]

Aye, I do know Miss Elizabeth, mistress. [Gibbs stops his arranging so he can snap off a few lilies for Tia, handing them to her.] And I wouldn't be a truthful man if I said I weren't worried about her.

I didn't know you could decorate!
[Gibbs, you are always in the greenhouse. Clopin would not be surprised if he looked under a fern and found a Gibbs-sized cot]

[He'd probably at least find a lot of empty bottles. Yes---and a cot.]

That, lad, would be one of the many important roles of the first mate aboard the Black Pearl. Jack's a bit particular.

I know how particular he is. I've seen the way he decorates himself.

And you're a bit decorated as well, aren't you? Though not as fussed about the hair as Jack is.

[Jim had been passing by the green house, when he heard the familiar sound of a pirate's tune. Curiously, he peeks inside, hoping no one will see him.]

[Gibbs was, indeed, singing a pirate tune, but now he has switched to one of Elizabeth's favorites---the song about the raggle taggle gypsies.]

[Jim listens quietly, missing sailing the skies in his ship.He has no idea that the song is Liz's favorites, but he too, is missing her.]

[Gibbs finally does look up, and sees someone he does not recognize. Quickly he thinks back to whether he hid the rum or not. He can't remember.]

Hallo, lad---what can I do for ye?

[A funeral urn?

Not the best choice of vase, but Elisa - who is also worried about Elizabeth - is willing to overlook that. She's even willing to overlook the theft.]

That's one way of keeping busy.

Aye, mistress Elisa---and you, are you pining about as well for someone lost?

Elizabeth is a good friend. So's Astrid.

[And she has been taken by the Mist herself, so she knows exactly what it's like to be trapped in a nightmare of your own imagining.]

Astrid? Another who's disappeared? [The pirate draws a dagger and strips some stray twigs off a spray of pussywillows.] This is a bad business and no mistake. And we left behind can only await their return.

[In his wanderings, Silver heard an old pirate tune - one he himself used to sing in lonely days past. He followed the voice into the greenhouse. There, he found one Joshamee Gibbs, the pirate whom he'd spoken to on the comm before, but never in person. And he was arranging... flowers? Did someone die? Stars, he hoped not.]

What be keepin' yer heart heavy, Mr. Gibbs?

It's Miss Swann, Silver. [Gibbs doesn't even look up--instead he takes a quick drink from the ever-present flask, then turns back to work.] She's gone missin'.

Yeah, so I've been hearin'.

[He takes out his own flask and takes a swig, more out of sympathy than a desire to drink.]

Y'knew 'er?

Know her. Know. Aye, cap'n--I do know her; I sailed with her on her first voyage to Port Royal, when she was just a wee child. Did you?
