Fortunately the screen zooms out to reveal a ghostly pale little girl with white hair and a very perplexed look on her face, talking to herself in her Irish accent as she fiddles with the device. How does this…com-mu-ni-cator work? [Ireland + Those Darn Northmen? Goliath instantly sympathizes.]

Welcome to the Academy, Aisling. I have visited your land once before, and found it a fair place. [When the Banshee wasn't trying to kill him.

Speaking of Banshees, this little girl looks sort of fey. He narrows his eyes a bit before going on.]

It is not an easy choice to leave one's territory, but we are all here to face a common threat. Be comforted by the friends you make here, the family who came before you. We will find strength in our unity and save our territories together.

Really? You've visited before?

I'll try my best, then.

[She looks him over curiously. She's never seen a gargoyle before.] Are you some sort of dragon?

Scotland is the land of my birth. For most of my life, you and I were neighbors.

I'm not a dragon. I am a gargoyle. Humans call me Goliath. And you are one of the Third Race, are you not?

I see. Hello, Goliath! What's a gargoyle?

[She thinks. She isn't familiar with that term.] Third race? Maybe. I'm a fairy. Tuatha de Danann.

[Quasimodo sees your single eye and raises you a lopsided face. But he's smiling.]

W-welcome to the Academy, Aisling! I'd never been to school before either, until I came here. B-but I think you'll like it. Everyone's very nice.

[Okay, this guy has a weird face. Aisling tilts her head to one side and then the other, examining him. Is something wrong with her vision? Maybe not. But he seems nice enough.]

Hello! You've never been to school before either? What's your name?

Oh! I-I'm Quasimodo.

And n-no, this Academy is the first time I've been anyplace but Paris.

Hello, Quasimodo!

Paris? Where is that? [Knows next to nothing about other countries.]

[Ireland - interesting. Leaving 'my' forest? Doubly interesting.

Wolves? Priceless.

He's always loved dogs, even if they aren't exactly dogs.] You left wolves in charge?

Yes! They help me keep bad people out of my forest. I'm their leader.

I can speak to them.

Northmen, eh?

wolf_faerie November 6 2010, 18:54:22 UTC
Yes. Have you seen any? They're big and wear horned helmets and burn down people's houses. I don't like them.

Not yet. Though I'd keep a sharp eye if I were you. They might be coming next.

I won't let them get in. Me and the wolves will keep them out!

I don't actually think the communicators actually work in any way... I've always just assumed they're magic. There's...a lot of stuff here that's magic.

Magic? [She examines it. That would make sense.] Maybe it is magic, then.

There's more magic here? Like what?

Well, they have these icebox...things where you can put food inside and it'll keep it cold, even if it's warm weather. Or the lights--it's like lighting a fire by pressing some little switch on the all. Or the airplane! It's this--giant, heavy hunk of metal, but it can fly in the air.

Really? That's amazing!

But how can a heavy piece of metal fly?
