The Hunchback of Notre Dame/Bleak House, Frollo/Esmeraldalittle_elfieSeptember 22 2013, 22:45:46 UTC
Big fan of Bleak House. It's probably my favourite Charles Dickens novel and I love the 2005 BBC miniseries. I rewatched the series over the weekend and it reignited my ancent shippy feelings...
Frollo is an emminent lawyer in Victorian London and Esmeralda is the lowborn wife of his most precious client, an aristocratic gentleman of the highest order. Frollo disapproved of the marriage from the beginning, believing that Esmeralda is not a good enough match for her husband and that her presence at his side impugns the family honour. He discovers a dark secret from Esmeralda's past [Prostitution? A previous lover? An illegitimate child? All three?] and wants to expose her at first, but soon realises that such an action would be disastrous to the family. And so, in typical Frollo fashion, he blackmails her into becoming his lover. Much hatesex ensues. Yay!
tl;dr - Victorian AU, inspired by Bleak House. Frollo as Mr. Tulkinghorn, Esmeralda as Lady Dedlock. Blackmail and hatesex.
