Everyone seemed convinced that it was no use talking to Shere Khan, but Mowgli tried. And as it turned out, there was something he could do to convince the big cat that he wasn't going to grow into another arrogant human with aspirations of dominance.
Extra points for a Mowgli who only sort of understands sex, isn't ashamed of his body, and feels like he came out ahead because now he can stay in the jungle. More points still for Bagheera freaking out about unnatural acts, and Baloo telling him to chill already (he's unnerved, but he doesn't want Mowgli to think they're disgusted with him, or blame him for what Shere Khan did).
