In some variations of the Pecos Bill story, Bill doesn't give up trying to lasso Sue back down and eventually succeeds. In another version, she eventually stops bouncing on her own, but is so tramautized by the experience that she doesn't speak to Bill again.
I'd really love a sort of marriage of these variations with the Disney version. Basically, Bill eventually lassos Sue back down, but she is tramautized and Bill has to win her back.
