At the end of the film, Triton's magic isn't strong enough to turn Ariel into a human permanently.

So she becomes a were-human, and turns human on full moon to be with Eric.

Oh my god, this is exactly what I was hoping for. Perfectly bittersweet, and wonderfully in character for both of them. Thank you so much!
