Inspired by the other more accurate adaptation prompt. So apparently, Herc didn't meet Meg the way he did in the movie, but that was roughly how he met another wife. That wife ended up being manipulated into essentially causing him a painful death.
So the prompt would be that a while into their marriage, Meg is feeling insecure about their relationship, especially concerning the attention he has received from other women. She is manipulated, perhaps by Hades for continuity's sake, into applying a mixture onto his clothes for him to wear. She was told that if he wears it, he will not stray. Instead, it causes him terrible, excruciating agony, to the point that he chooses death by fire rather than living with that pain. Meg has to live with the fact that her own trust issues led to strong, noble Hercules taking the coward's way out, leaving behind those who need him, rather than living with the torture she had unknowingly inflicted upon him.
