Best laid plans

We will be going to St. Nicholas this weekend. Probably tonight if I have my way.

my_dog_fluffer will try and get something from their bookstore. She has a prayer corner in her room and will want a diptych or icon. She always does. During a past festival a seminarian (working the bookstore) spent a great deal of time talking to the girls, gave them each a ( Read more... )

That sounds like fun. St. Nicholas' has some odd icons (IMHO) but it's a lovely church with lovely parishioners. I hope ya'll have a good time. And I think it's cool your (daughter?) is so interested in spiritual things. You must be doing something right. Your family is Catholic, right?

I can't think of anywhere in the church where you wouldn't be perfectly welcome to look around in other than anything behind the iconostasis. No laity, Orthodox or non, is allowed back there, but the rest of the church should be fine. There are some super-strict churches and monasteries that may have different rules, but mainstream churches should be open for your perusal.

Two thoughts:

This year, I am going to the Greek Festival for sure. The last eight or so years, I've tried to get there and always something at the last moment prevented me. Not this year.

And...

I just received an eBay purchase. There's quite a bit of history of our parish in it.
