A Word About Bill Richardson

Jan 22, 2007 16:59

I realize that most people who read my rantings have no idea about Bill Richardson or they just recognize him as a public figure, left over from a previous administration. And, once again as I've said about other candidates: This is not an endorsement, but I did feel this would be an opportune time for me to elaborate on a couple of things which ( Read more... )

I think Richardson is the leading dark horse. I really liked his interview with George yesterday, but you can never believe a candidate when they say they won't take the Vice Presidency.

Six or eight month ago, I would've been right there with you in believing that he'd take number two, but Domenici has been there since '73, he's a respected lawmaker with high name recognition and the seat would really be Richardson's for the asking.

Thus far, the only other possible candidate that's expressed an interest is the Mayor of Albuquerque and he has said that he'd only run, if Domenici didn't. And, while Marty Chavez is relatively high profile because he's the mayor of the media center, he has already lost at least one statewide race and a good Republican could easily beat him.

While on the other hand, especially since I'm not seeing any popular Republicans, about the only thing that would limit the number of votes Richardson could draw from that side of the aisle would be the fact that it'd increase the Democratic majority in the Senate.

Nonetheless and I wouldn't have believed it until I saw it, but Bill Richardson is really that popular.

Honestly, if it looked like Richardson has a chance at the presidency, I would throw in full force for him. At this point, I'm among the many who don't actually care enough to vote for anyone but Obama if it came down to it, just because he's charismatic enough to be interesting, but if Richardson actually did get enough traction to become a prominant and possible Democratic contender, I would actually vote for him out of wanting him to be president, rather than political ennui.

He's charismatic, very intelligent, actually familiar with the tech industry, and has extensive experience in negotations and international politics, all of which puts him well more qualified than his competition.

I genuinely like the guy, and I rarely say that about any politician.

(Idle note: I'm an independant.)

Do you really think Obama would ever have a chance? I fear his name is just too similar to "Osama" for the mainstream U.S. public.

I think anyone that won't vote for him based on that is already not voting for him because he's black.
