The man who authored New Mexico's "Dangerous Dog" law, which provides that the owner of a dog deemed dangerous or potentially dangerous can be charged with a felony was hospitalized after being bit by his own dog.
I don't have any dogs. I've got a cat and some fish. The felony rule was a compromise and I don't really have a problem with it, I just thought it funny he was bit by his own animal and am kind of interested whether that makes it "dangerous".
As for the pit bulls, I know they can be a problem. I see reports on the news all the time, but I have a moral problem with outlawing a breed. I'd support many of the components that her proposal would've applied to existing animals and I don't think I'd have a problem if they were restricted to rural areas, but I see an outright ban and a requirement they be neutered as a path down a slippery slope.
i agree with the last sentence of the above comment. banning pit bulls just sounds like a euphemism for "killing off the breed". and that would just be an outright shame, since i love pitbulls. the thing about them is, if you don't give them the proper time and attention they need when they're young, they do become unruly very quickly. but they're very loyal dogs, and if raised correctly only become violent when them or their owners are being assaulted/threatened.
