Katrina: Outrage!

Sep 03, 2005 12:44

So the people shouted when the priests blew with the trumpets: and it came to pass, when the people heard the sound of the trumpet, and the people shouted with a great shout, that the wall fell down flat, so that the people went up into the city, every man straight before him, and they took the city.Joshua 6:16

To me, it seems like evacuation is necessary to stop the spread of disease with all the dead and chemicals and water. In that case, anything that'd keep people in the city would make the management of that effort harder to manage. Once they get the water out and perform enough of a clean up to make living there possible, then having the red cross come in to re-establish people living in the city seems to make sense.

Initially in the event of a disaster, the Red Cross brings in food, water and medical supplies. They've got blankets and cots. Things that could make life bearable. The Baptist Men and FEMA oversee the reconstruction and yeah, it's too early for them. But, as the Fox video illustrates, they aren't letting the refugees leave and they've been keeping them locked-up without basic necessities.

It should also be noted that I saw a report from NBC yesterday, which I'm not finding right this minute, but I'll look again later; Where they profiled "rooftop communities" of middle class people, who are showing no compunction to leave, as is that interdictor whom everybody has been reading. The State of Louisiana said, everybody out of New Orleans and the poor have been trying to comply. They've been given no way to travel and they aren't being allowed to leave on their own. Now, we learn that they've been preventing the do-gooders from doing good to the point, they felt the need to explain in an FAQ ( ... )

what a coinkidink... I was just flipping through channels and Charlton Heston was reading that same exact story to little kids on a Christian channel.

It's a double coinkidink, because I also had considered quoting from Exodus.

Last night, I replied in another journal to someone who felt all these LJ posts serve no purpose. She doesn't read me and she's probably already flashed through to see who I am, but I wanted to include the verse for her benefit and as an explanation.

Now there's something you don't hear on Fox News everyday.

Both reporters have gotten a little flack and though I don't watch Fox, the blog reports have been that Sean Hannity cautioned Shepard Smith with the word "perspective". He replied "this is perspective" and in the last bit, you hear Bill O'Reilly trying to rein in Geraldo. Nevertheless, when you watch the montage, the word compelling is the first thing that came to mind.

consider all the fucked up diseases people must be having now. all the toxic chemicals that are in the water.

if that shit spreads, it would be an epidemic.

we were discussing that as one possible reason why they're not letting people out yesterday. those poor pregnant women wading around in that water are probably going to have mutant kids.
