I just have to express this and right now, I can't think of a better forum. Admittedly, I haven't been following the race to succeed Micheal Eisner, too closely. I've read the news reports and because I hold a special interest in the concept of convergence, plus because I'm a student of popular culture; I also read a lot of Hollywood and Media press, but I haven't gone out of my way for info.
I'm one of those in the Roy Disney
camp, except I added a caveat when it came to succession; Excluding the possibility of a young Charlie finding a magic ticket, there isn't another person who has the vision and ability to become the next Uncle Walt, other than
Steve Jobs. Of course, he publicly took himself out of the running, something about wanting to concentrate on Apple. Roy had proposed that Disney buy Apple, so that he could keep his baby and still run the empire. I don't know, if he was one of those Roy claims skipped the interview because Eisner was going to be present. But, he's a smart enough fellow that if he were to be offered the most recognizable brand in the history of the world, I doubt he would've turned it down.
What prompted this rant were the news reports that
Bob Iger was named after
Meg Whitman withdrew her name from consideration. Most likely, Ms Whitman made this move because it was obvious that she wasn't going to get the job, or the board was so divided that she'd be assured of a rocky start. I don't know which is the case, but I do know that somebody should take her aside and tell her; Steve Jobs' name wasn't being promoted because he knows computers, but because he's a special person and you my dear, aren't.
