Oh, a great favourite of mine as well! This is the fic that gets my vote for "should absolutely have been filmed - and would work perfectly - as a (feature-length) ep" :-) HNY to you too!
Even if things didn't turn out the way you'd expected, thank you for prodding me to re-read the story, something I'd been meaning to do for ages. I got out my old paper copy last night and have started it. I remember it was a great read but the details escape me, so it's lovely to go back and lose myself in it.
I'm trying to be optimistic and look at it as getting a jump on the 2022 Xmas story... of course, I'd need to (1) finish it and (2) not forget in 11 months that I'd written it!
Paper copy? Makes sense, but I had no idea! Is there anything materially different? Is it the same text? Are there any illustrations that didn't make it online?
Well, my paper copy states that it is number 10 in a limited edition of 40 (!), published by Blue Jay Press in 1984 (which is when I got it). No illustrations, and I assume that the text is the same if photocopies or the online version have been scanned/transcribed correctly. I've just finished it - a super read.
You got me wondering whether it was the same text in my paper copy of Tethered Goats as on AO3, and I noticed that Chris Quinton replied in a comment there that she had done some revising before she posted the story. So I asked her what that was, and she replied '...all I did was tweak the punctuation, shorten paragraphs, fix clumsy sentences and sort out word repetition - all purely cosmetic.' So now we both know.

Though it *does* make me wonder if there isn't a way of putting together an animated version, with the right illustrator.... /gets all thinky about it
