My prompt was "a blue bauble". I have no idea how I got from that to this.

Bodie is so right about them making Avril part of their family in no time. Nice job showing how both men have aged and also giving a few more details of Bodie's very sketchy background. I like their mix of caution and openness when they confront the situation.

Thank you. I'm pleased you enjoyed. I can see them both being eager to establish some kind of a family connection, but wary at the same time.

Oh dear lord, this was perfect! You hit every kink I have with these two - and all done with such a deft touch. Doyle was sitting opposite, looking much like an aging terrier on guard. So many gorgeous lines - your dialogue is pitch-perfect, as ever - but this had me grinning from ear to ear.

Wonderful older lads - and you know this cries sequel, right?

Thank you! I'm so pleased this worked, because the dread words "Mary Sue" were lingering at my shoulder the whole time. *G*

I don't usually do sequels - my idea well seems to dry up at the end of a story - but for this one, I actually can envisage a continuation. Maybe even two.

Oh wow, Bodie and Doyle have a baby! Hmmmn! *g* I much prefer Avril's independence though, and the way she told them very firmly that she was already organised, thank you very much - I hope she keeps it up! I love Doyle the older bookworm too, and Bodie the sensible adviser! Yeay for finishing our challenge with Prosfic, and thank you! *g*

Thank you! Doyle is seen reading heavy stuff several times in the series, so I can easily picture him as an avid reader as he gets older and has a bit more time. And poor Avril went through a first draft of being a stereotypical swooning female, until I thought, "Hey, she's a Bodie. Those genes have to be good for something,"

I really did enjoy this. I love how the situation isn't what you think it might be, and a peek into Bodie's background is always a treat. But best I really liked that Avril had more backbone to her than first met the eye. And, of course, older lads! A really lovely story.

Thank you. I'm pleased you enjoyed. Avril did go through a first draft of being a stereotypical swooning female, but then I figured as a Bodie, she'd have some built-in toughness to her.

Read this last night and came straight back this morning to re-read. Really enjoyed it, from "Still got your way with the birds, I see" - such a secure-sounding teasing - to "You sounded like you might be decent" - sums up the whole of the rest of that family there..
