Last night brought us the most satisfying thunderstorm we've had in some time. I fell asleep to it, and when I woke up the room was still dark and cool and I was able to lie there for a while, piecing together a couple dreams and being pleased with myself for sleeping through Adam's getting up and going to work at 4:30 AM ( Read more... )

ahh, Two Step :)

Laurie, if you're interested in getting the song, I can get you some live versions. Many of them, in fact...

Adam and I were trying to decide whether or not this was a sarcastic comment -- i.e. whether or not you thought I had overturned my fourteen years of surely immature yet impenetrable Dave Matthews Band hatred for the sake of my running playlist! Adam voted, yes, sarcastic. I voted, no, not sarcastic... so you shall have to clear it up for us. Heh.

Yes, I had your dislike of DMB in mind when I saw the comment. I doubted that you actually would be interested. But if for some reason you were, I would have been willing to help.

Alrighty, trying to perk things up a little without getting obnoxious:

Franz Ferdinand - Take Me Out
TISM - Greg! The Stop Sign!
End of Fashion - O Yeah
Billy Joel - Allentown (I know it creates an unfortunate artist double-showing, but think of the video clip's muscle-bound men dancing around and tell me you're not going to feel energised! Or at least amused at the camp factor..!)
Sia - Breathe Me
Stereophonics - Maybe Tomorrow
Doobie Brothers - It Keeps You Runnin' (haha!)
Cat Power - Free
Frou Frou/Imogen Heap - Breathe In...

...oh, and totally seconding Goodnight Moon by Shivaree as suggested above.

Though I'd probably un-italicise that 'totally' if LJ gave me the option to edit comments. Earnest, some? ;) But it's a cute song, used to make me grin lots walking around listening to it with headphones. :)

"Allentown" is another favorite karaoke song of mine, too (okay, most Billy Joel songs are). But if I could keep myself from singing to one, I can keep myself from singing to another. Maybe I'll add that one. Ooh, and the Stereophonics! They're good for any mix.

"Breathe Me" was featured in the last few minutes of the Six Feet Under finale and would have me sobbing on the running course! But, hmm, maybe that's a good way to cool off...

I know I could just tell you when I get home, but hell this is more fun.

Soul Coughing - Roll'n
Journey- Don't Stop Believe'n (maybe towards the end)
Just about anything from the "Ditty Bops"
Barenaked Ladies - Be My Yoko Ono
Hello City
Box Set
If I had a Million Dollars
Oh I will tell you the rest later, but now I have to do my job again (crap!).

"Box Set" was on my playlist last year when I was doing the half-marathon training. Anytime I hear it now, I can't help but think of sweating through the woods in August. I still love the song, though.

Must borrow your Ditty Bops CD this evening! I think my run calls for a little "Angel With an Attitude."

Some stuff that was on my Shuffle playlist when I did a rollerblading half-marathon last year:

Light and Day - the Polyphonic Spree (aka That Song from Murderball)
Power Out - the Arcade Fire
Portions for Foxes - Rilo Kiley
Stockton Gala Days - 10,000 Maniacs
What do you Love more than Love, Iowa, As Cool as I am - Dar Williams

Also, anything by Clap Your Hands Say Yeah! tends to get me going at the gym.

"Born to Run" and "Glory Days" by Bruce Springsteen...okay, "Born to Run" may seem predictable, but you can't deny that it's a running anthem. It always makes me pick up the pace a little bit. Also, "The Ring Song" by the Bravery, and "Take on Me" by A-Ha. Play around with your list. I can never tell whether a soong is good to run to unless I've tried running to it first. :)
