I spend too much time not trusting that my future selves will ever do anything interesting, and I spend about as much time thinking that most of my life comes about by chance rather than my any effort of my own.

I used to have a similar problem that involved judging my current life-progress (if there is such a thing) on the standards of younger selves. And what those younger selves would say if they saw me. Now I just try as hard as I can to live a life that would make one (or all, if possible) of my younger selves pass out in shock. ^_^
