Firefox crashes after upgrade to Flash 11.3 - How to fix!

Turns out that the latest version of Flash (11.3) will cause Firefox to crash on closing the browser after you've watched flash content, due to a new "feature" they added ( Read more... )

The weird thing is that it waits until you close Firefox to crash. I think maybe flash is either not letting go of something it should, or it is letting go and either not telling Firefox, or ending something it shouldn't in the process ( ... )

Reading the bugzilla page linked from the release notes, the patch file they came up with was called "Don't unload plugin libraries, rev. 1". Apparently besides FF 13.0.1, it's also going to be in FF 14.0b8, and they're planning to backport it to the next FF 10.X.Xesr but they're not going to push a new one because of it, they'll simply wait for the next planned one and add it in then.

(I'm still amazed that Adobe added something specifically for Firefox and then didn't catch that it causes crashes from 15.0a2 all the way back to versions BEFORE the lowest version that it says that it applies to!)

(Yes, I know, I should upgrade from FF 3.6.x to a newer version, I think next time I do an install/reinstall I'll move up to whatever the current ESR version is at the time. (Right now it's 10.0.5esr (available here) if you're curious.))
