Hey everyone! So, uh, Rika's been pretty quiet. Unless you've called her out, she'll talk. Well, Rika and Hanyuu will be getting their chip out and this will probably be the last chip event until the Lavos plot is over. They're both from before the end of the series, so Hanyuu still has her powers. And Rika isn't quite human. Yet. She's considers herself to be a wiiiitch.
There will be crystal fragments floating all over Discedo. This will last for three days, July 9th-11th, right before all Hell breaks loose the Lavos plot.
◆ What is the Sea of Fragments (referred to as the world of gods in Higurashi)?
In When They Cry series, worlds are referred to as Kakera or Fragments. The sea of Fragments is a dimension which looks like a huge empty space, filled with floating, glittering crystals. It could be likened to a solar system. The crystals are the worlds they call Fragments. Inside the floating pieces are worlds. Or the pieces can be smaller pieces apart of a bigger world Fragment, containing a small memory from that world. A Fragment can play back events as though you were playing back a video.
Although unconfirmed, Bernkastel of When They Cry 3 is strongly hinted to have been a part of Rika in the past. She can willingly summon Fragments. On the other hand, Hanyuu and Rika cannot. But since their powers are going out of control, I thought just this once they'll be able to see the Fragments all over the place. This event will be the only time they will allow the Fragments to appear. Rika isn't Bernkastel. 8( Once the event is over, that's the end of the Fragments.
They can materialize inside objects and people, but I figure it would be less complicated to have them appear as their original, crystal forms.
◆ When and how long is this event?
Not much happens during the event, but Fragments will be floating around Discedo for three days. July 9th to July 11th. (Right before the Lavos plot.) A post from Rika will signal the start of the event/when the Fragments start appearing all over Discedo.
Rika, Hanyuu, and Cecil (their "doctor") will be missing from the apartment at this time and hiding elsewhere. Sorry Kaye and Co. D: They didn't want to use the safehouse.
◆ What's happening during the chip event?
Since Hanyuu and Rika have the ability to pass through a higher dimensional world (the world of gods, the sea of Fragments), when their powers go out of control, a rift leading to that sea of Fragments is created. Hence, small portions of the Fragments start slipping out and showing up all over Discedo. These Fragments are pieces of everyone's worlds.
Fragments of memories coming in all different shapes and sizes will be seen floating around the city or maybe some will just be laying around on the floor. They will appear as small pieces or slivers, containing a memory from a person's world. They could even contain a memory from Fortuna.

◆ What will my character be seeing?
To avoid any godmoding and having people peek through another person's memory, I had to apply some rules:
One will have to hold onto a Fragment to trigger their memory to play itself. The pieces of worlds appear as small crystal pieces. Upon touch, they will play back past memories across the surface of the crystal. It's like playing back a video tape and watching it on a television screen.
These will only be SHORT snippets of your character's own past events/memories (anything they saw or experienced themselves), that way we don't have anyone showing off their whole canon's life story. They can be a traumatic experience, that time you died, or a nice simple memory of family time. Anything.
OR/AND
They will be seeing SHORT snippets of a character's alternate history/universe/world. This is only for those who do have a canon alternate universe. (example: In the Higurashi series, there's a version of Rika's world where her parents are still alive.)
By the end of the event, the rift will be closed and the Fragments will disappear from Fortuna.
- Can Character A view Character B's Fragment?
Yes, they can as long as they're peeking over Character B's shoulder or something like that. Or if Character B already triggered their Fragment to play its memory (and they left it out in the open or something), but be sure to check with the other mun first!
◆ Getting rid of the Fragments
It's not like these things are going to cause you physical harm or anything. But if there are any characters that want to blow these things up, then well...
Characters in Discedo have different powers, so I'm going to leave it up to the players on how they can destroy them. Burning the Fragments to get rid of its shape and turning it to ashes is one method of getting rid of them. It allows the Fragments to return to the world of gods. (It's kind of like a sacrificial ritual) Even if no one does anything about them, they'll automatically disappear by the end of the event.
Other side effects (but not affecting the city) -
Rika - Partial memory loss. She will gradually recover her memories throughout the three days the event will last. She may or may not try to communicate over the network.
Hanyuu - Difficulty maintaining her physical form. She will be switching from physical form to spirit form from time to time.
