With his gaze cast towards the sea of white ahead of them, his scarlet eyes hardened upon mention of Abel's brother. The betrayer.
"As was Radu."
A hateful emphasis placed on the past-tense of that remark. His own brother had been precious and kind to him. An ambitious sibling who promised to aid him against anything that stood in their way. They would take back their home from the hands of the enemy and rule as the greatest lords of their fatherland.
"Yet blood even as thick as ours can prove to be..."
His fists tightened around one another, knuckles popping as he strived to quell his anger at the grim reminder.
"...Corrupted."
This however, was not his story to be told. No matter how similar. No matter how much they mirrored. No matter how parallel.
Radu? The Baron of Luxor, he knew that name. So Alucard had a sibling who was of the same name? That was some interesting trivia... He'd remember it of course, but... for now, he continued as bidden, watching Alucard for a moment before he would start again.
"He was killed."
There. He had said it.
"Cain was killed in an accident on the station. In our attempts to bring him back, we put something into his blood... The nanomachines that give us our power have certain levels to them, the highest of which being one hundred percent. That is what we added to his blood, replacing whatever was... left of Cain. We brought back his body and his mind... But something had been lost."
His tone almost sounded mechanical and forced.
"And what we brought back is what you saw in that memory..."
He was faltering. He didn't want to explain the rest.
How that memory burned him as much as the recollection tore at Abel's heartstrings. Where the child lamented, the Nosferatu only seethed. Forgiveness was a foreign concept to him, despite the obvious technicalities of Abel's betrayal.
It was treachery all the same.
Treachery he never had the chance to act vengeance upon, and never would again. While he had been sentenced to beheading, his bother had died in all the comforts and luxury of the heathens he left Alucard for.
Injustice!
Not to be ruled however by his wrath, he breathed a sigh his body did not need and aimed to settle his thoughts elsewhere. After all. He wanted to know Abel's story.. not of the sibling who knifed him in the back.
"Yes.. I remember that much quite vividly." Poison on his tongue.
And as much as he could sense Abel was hesitating, he craved for the past that was to be his future.
Of course he hesitated. The shame that he felt due to his actions then, the guilt, the knowledge that what he had done would never be assuaged... He didn't want to have to repeat that to anyone. He hadn't even told Esther, nor did he think he ever could. Not when she trusted him so fully, not when he felt so close to her.
