Man, so much word. Like...there is not a single part I don't agree with. I think what makes Isabela such a progressive character is she's the one whose chosen to make herself sexual. She wasn't abused or forced into it, she chose it. She owns it. And she's not shamed of it. And she shouldn't be. If she was a male character no one would expect her to be.
(And holy fuck I did not know people modded her white. That is not okay.)
Ah, glad it like, makes sense. I put it up and was like "holy shit I hope I didn't accidentally say something really bad or leave out something really important."
I agree so much. I'll admit when I first started the game, I thought "Oh look, another hypersexualized woman in a videogame." But I was really proven wrong by her attitude and character.
And she's not shamed of it. And she shouldn't be. If she was a male character no one would expect her to be.
SO MUCH FUCKING THIS. UGH. That's exactly why I talked about Sebastian. Him, along with Anders, are practically revered for their "man-slut" pasts, yet Isabela is treated as inferior. Breaks my mind and makes me rage.
I don't...I can't even express properly my hate for white Isabela and the idiotic arguments for it. I wanted to do a post on it but I just don't think I'm educated well enough in race relations to do it justice and I would hate, hate to say something offensive on accident. I mean, I was worried about that with this post and I like to think I'm fairly well read on

I'll admit, when I first was told about her before playing the game, I thought that too. But then I was pleasantly surprised by the sheer amounts of awesome that is Isabela (I'm on my second playthrough now, and romancing her this time :3 )
Yep, people love Anders and Sebastians man-slut pasts, but Isabela is a lesser person because she's female and likes to have sex. Ugh. I hate it.
Yeah, race is a touchy subject and I could see where you might feel awkward not knowing how to approach it. I seriously...had no idea people did that before this post though. What the fuck is wrong with people?
Suppose we shouldn't judge the book by it's cover! Props to Bioware for that, seriously. I love being proven wrong like that.
Ha, me too, on my uh...3rdish playthrough. I say thirdish because I'm concurrently playing two different playthroughs, one mage and one archer. Archer is just so fun to play, but I'm enjoying being a male snarky mage too, so, you know. He and Isabela are totally going to be like, the awesomest, and Anders is going to be his BFF and it's going to all be beautiful and nothing hurts.
I mean, it's not that I don't appreciate the man-slut pasts, heh, I just agree with you so hard that it's just plain hypocritical to praise a man for it then pan a woman for the exact same thing. I mean, how many times can Sebastian be called a "male Isabela" in a positive way while Isabela is derogatorily called a slut before it clicks?
Yes, that's exactly why I didn't do it. And I don't fucking know, I'm tired of trying to figure it out.
