I was shopping at Trader Joe's near Union Square the other day.  As per usual, the line stretched around the store. I was standing in line when I felt a cart bump into my ankles...not very hard...but still enough to make me turn to see who was doing it.  It was an middle aged black woman who seemed to not be paying attention...so I just let it go.

that IS how it is at trader joes because they sell mental illness in little to-go cups there.

Is that why the people there are so friendly? I figured that they were just all really coked up.

Yeah, I had already lost it at that point... I wish I had been able to be sweet-as-pie and "help" her with her wayward cart.

She was completely uncivil. You don't have to lose your cool but you can tell her exactly where to get off. Say audibly, "Don't you dare touch me again or I'll have you put out of this store. Do you hear me?"

I have trouble expressing myself when I'm enraged...my brain shuts off and I literally can't see straight.

I've finally learned that when someone pisses me off like that there's nothing to do to keep me from talking down to them. She is inferior to you. You can be enraged and show every bit of it in expressing your disdain for her.

Well, she knew I was angry...and I expressed myself without resorting to name-calling or violence which is my goal. The way I see it someone has to act like the adult and stop the situation from escalating. The next step would have been notifying a store employee that I was being harassed like you mentioned.

Ugh. If I were in a bad enough mood, I would have pushed back, hard enough to put the bitch off her feet. If I were only in a moderately bad mood, I would have changed lanes, but that would have put me in a really bad mood. If I were in a tolerably good mood... wait, what am I saying? I'm talking crazy.

There are no lane changes...there are two lines..one for under 12 items and one for everything else. Manhattan Trader Joe's is insanity on acid.

Then there's no doubt the bitch would have been on the floor.
