So the New York Yankees got booted from the playoffs prior to the World Series once again. In fact, they got the boot in the very first round, losing to a Detroit Tigers team that was so bad that it lost a stunning 119 games as recently as 2003. The big story isn't about Detroit, ( Read more... )

I did, back in college. My mother worked for the university I was attending, so it limited my subject material. It was still good fun, and I stand by what I wrote. I'll have to figure out some place that wants long-form essays - this sort of thing is far too long for a letter to the editor.

Personally, I love it when the "underdog wins". Not only is there no need to fear (hopefully I am not the only one he gets the reference) but it sort of gives hope. It proves that anything can happen. And that's what makes the play-offs exciting. Suddenly the regular season doesn't mean that much anymore.

So, when the Yankees lost, I was excited. If the Mets go down, it will be great! MLB will be pissed because there is no New York team. What? No one from the East Coast? And I don't know who else is in it. But if no team from California makes it, it will be great too! You mean, people live in the big part of the country we just fly over??

But you did give some excellent talking points James. Keep up your good work.

Very nicely written!

I've never really felt positive emotion towards the Yankees, but I didn't know why until I read this.
