I am feeling a bit dejected because I have been trying all day, using all manner of jiggery pokery to find a better way to get to Bologna than flying, but it seems like it's way more expensive. The combinations and permutations I have tried include--Edinburgh-Dover-Paris-Bologna (which is train-ferry-train) which is around £227, Edinburgh-London-

No suggestions, sadly, only wanted to say I understand completely. Last few times we have had to travel we have ended up having to pay way over the odds to avoid flying and it makes me so cross. Travelling down to Portsmouth for Ant's cousin's wedding cost us £150 each by train. Way to encourage people not to take cheap short flights!
