May 17, 2008 13:19

I have to dash off but I have a few things to say about last night's epsiode. Spoilery for "Guess What's Coming," plus the promo that aired immediately following.

And why is he not in the brig for shooting/maiming a fellow officer

Easy enough. Helo and Gaeta were beginning a mutiny, that included attempting to subdue Kara physically. Anders, by shooting Gaeta to protect Kara, prevented it from coming to fruition. So if anyone deserves the brig, it's Helo and Gaeta. Not that I expect that to happen.

I know absolute jack about the military so forgive me if I'm talking out of my ass here, but wasn't Helo carrying out his legal obligation as an officer by relieving Kara of duty? As the CO, she was acting completely unreasonably and from Helo's POV, was endangering the lives of every crew member on the Demetrius. I love Kara to bits, but Helo was doing the right thing (something Kara actually agreed with after Gaeta was shot).

I certainly agree that Kara was acting unreasonable. Still, you'll notice once they got distracted by Gaeta's shooting, that they ended up doing more or less what she wanted to do, go to the cylon ship to see the hybrid. Helo could have easily proposed the compromise they ended up choosing at the time. And as this seemed to help them in their quest for earth (which had the felicitous result of making Starbuck a whole lot less weird). Which brought the mission to a kind of successful end.

Kara ended up by being right after all, a posteriori. So, resisting her orders and dealing with a superior officer physically ended up not being such a good idea for Gaeta, as we have seen.

I don't know about you, but Kara didn't seem to be in the mood to compromise prior to the shooting. She seemed to be more in the "my way or the highway" state of mind.

Kara ended up by being right after all, a posteriori.

This is very true, but hindsight is 20/20. Helo couldn't risk the lives of everyone there based solely on Kara's alleged vision (or "gut instinct" as Kara puts it) - it would have been the loyal thing to do as her friend, no question, but in reality would have been completely irrational. Based on her behaviour with Leoben, I can't really blame Helo.

I guess I just have a hard time believing that Sam was acting legally, because he was so obviously out of his mind in that scene.

The Hug That Went Terribly Awry
Aww, I love people who found the humor in this episode. Thanks for that laugh. I only found a sort of dark humor in Laura Roslin, but any giggles today are welcomed by me.

Sympathy huggles to daybreak777 and demonqueen666.
Thanks, D. This was a rough one for me. But giggles help. :-)

Every Cylon except Tory has been much less effective since the nebula revelation, just spinning their wheels.
Exactly. This is why I don't want to know the Final Cylon just yet. That individual is maybe happily doing their job and maybe doing it effectively and well. They do not need to join the pointless FF support meetings. Unless it's Roslin or Gaeta or Kendra or something, let that poor unknown be alone in peace a while longer. (And seriously, does Gaeta need this news, now?)

Btw, like the carafes at the Cylon board meeting, did you notice the kickass cornerless peach planner on Roslin's desk? Not a Blackberry, but I want one of those!

IS CAPRICA PREGNANT WITH TIGH'S BABY? OR WHAT?Or what? Please? Seriously, ( ... )

I thought it was wonderful that the line he pauses to hear is: "When she finds love, may it always stay true."

The fact that you notice little things like this is one of the many reasons I ADORE YOU. Intentional on the part of the writers or not, that is just too great.

I would also like to note that when Lee is emo, he can still keep his shit together enough to be a good soldier.

You know, I was browsing TWOP yesterday night and I saw one poster bitch about how "whiny" Lee was in this episode and I couldn't fucking believe it. What in Lee's behaviour could possibly be construed as WHINY?? I'm getting so sick and tired of people pulling that word out of their asses because they don't have enough brains to think of something original to say about the character.[/rant]

The Angeli-induced wincey moment of the ep for me (oh you know there's always one) was Roslin telling Tory to get the info on her knees if she had to.Stupid me, I totally forgot that Angeli wrote the episode, but I still cringed when I heard that line. It was a real ( ... )

Kara as the Harbinger of Death

I think this is going to end up meaning something like she's the Harbinger of the death of humans as a singular society, and welcome to the brave new world, already existing on earth, of hybrid society.

Oh yay, someone else who thought Sam was intimating Gaeta might be a Cylon because he was singing. I was starting to think I was the only one who wondered about that. :)

And when are they going to figure out what they are supposed to be doing, besides having the Secret Cylon meetings and getting nowhere? Every Cylon except Tory has been much less effective since the nebula revelation, just spinning their wheels.

Yeah, the holding pattern is getting irritating. Are they going to stay in stasis until the final Cylon is revealed? If that's the case, bring it on already. Or at least show us Tigh changing Nicky's diapers so we can get some amusement out of it all. *g*

I saw something somewhere that said RDM indicated the Searider Falcon book is/will be significant. And supposedly it's the book in front of Kara in the Last Supper picture? Ooops, guess I just killed a kitten too.

I am curious in a very morbid way as to what exactly Cottle discovered in his "examination," ahem. *shudder* (As sarmoti suggested, maybe he gave her a rash ( ... )
