My direct ancestor (mom's side) was there, and his wife was one of the four women. Though a member of the original Mayflower passengers, he and his family weren't Pilgrims. He was a bad boy who liked his liquor, and would do stuff on Sundays -- horrors! Spent the occasional day in the stocks, I dare say!

He and another ship he had been on some years earlier were shipwrecked on an island off the east coast. He led a mutiny among the survivors against the governor, and failed. The only reason he wasn't hanged was because he begged for his life really well.

I've got lots of outlaws and ne'r-do-wells in the ol' pedigree. Heh.

Heh! Supposedly on Mom's side we're descended from Miles Standish who abssconded to Canada at some point. But Grandma (who had the genealogy done) wasn't entirely convinced.

Though Grandma's sister and brother-in-law did have to flee back to Canada -- he was a front man for the Purple Gang and stealing from them.
