So NBC is remaking Kath and Kim? ... ... *stifles*

After seeing what America did to Teachers (a fucking *sitcom*), I hold very little hope. And it's not that I even like K&K that much - funny at first but ended up being a little too repetitive for me, which will probably suit a US sitcom, come to think of it - but we Aussies can be protective of ( Read more... )

I'm hearing about this everywhere and haven't read any of the articles myself, but I just don't understand *how* this show can be remade. I don't really like Kath and Kim, but it's only funny because it's so...Aussie. And weren't the characters already kinda iconic before the show started anyway?

Ugly Betty is a remake? What of? Am so glad I haven't seen a bit of the US Teachers yet.

When I googled it quickly for an article link, everything seemed to be a couple of months old so I don't know why the topic has suddenly surfaced everywhere - I think there was a newspaper article or something, probably along the lines of "evil corporate Americans are raping our culture OMGZ!"

Should be interesting to see what they come up with, anyway.

UB is a remake of a Columbian show called Betty La Fea, or something like that (a telenovalla like the cute little show on the TV in Betty's house). I know very little about the original so I'm not sure how similar UB is. It seems like a much easier premise to adapt than K&K, though.

How on earth can they remake K&K? It's... it just doesn't work. I mean, there are shows I can see adapting - heck, I didn't even realise one of my favourite old American sitcoms was actually a remake of a British show for years cause it worked (Three's Company - yeah, I used to like it a lot, was a remake of the British Man About The House but two girls and a guy flatsharing's kind of universal anyway).

But K&K? I like it, watch it when it's on TV even if it's repeats and I just don't get it.

Though I did have a giggle wondering if they'd use Britney in a role like Kylie's.
