Hard to say - I know from having broken several toes that I'm sensitive long after it heals - I wince at the thought of it being touched accidentally even though it doesn't (foot rubs, etc). Being startled would definitely do that.

I have a friend who takes her dog to an acupuncturist with good results - a dachshund with back problems.

Not nuts. Talk to a vet. If it happened this time from getting hit from the side, maybe it pinched a nerve or something. Try to remember exactly where the impact was and how she took it and that might help the vet figure out the source of the pain. Labradoodles seem to have that sweet puppy floppiness that is so endearing, but I wonder if maybe that loose muscle tone, or loose joints (hah loose joints) might make them more susceptible to certain injuries. Poor Stella. I hope she's better.
