Daisy Peel is cool

If I ever manage to actually learn how to do a REAR CROSS ON THE FLAT between jumps I will be you know ecstatic. I couldn't really get it yesterday at the Daisy Peel seminar in NJ and this is exactly the move I think would have helped me a few weeks ago on the course at that mini-seminar with Chris Parker ( Read more... )

It sounds as though it was a really helpful seminar. I just turned on all my outside lights and went outside and tried both of your exercises.

When and how do you use your JuliusK9 harness?

The first time she took the jump directly in front of the first jump instead of the one off to the right. The next time it worked pretty well although the turn after the second jump should have been tighter. We tried it a few more times, not perfectly smooth, but not too bad.

I like my Julius harness a lot. I think mostly I bought it for the stickers (ahahaha) and the fact that it's reflective. We walk in the mornings in the pitch dark. I like reflective.

...and your stickers say?

(I really don't think we have earned the right to showboat... but maybe someday... we can dream)

Mine say:

"The Putz" on one side (his official and most worthy nickname)

and

"Stand on it" on the other. are you a Springsteen fan? Know that song? When I got Razor I was very used to running a slower dog and sort of loping around a course. Razor RUNS!!! so I really had to learn to run as fast as I can. "Stand on It" is our theme song. And his sticker reminds me NO LOPING!

Sweet, I'm cool! :)

Thoughts on trends:
I suppose I should have been more clear about the 'trends' thing. I'm not sure it's a general trend, but most people do tend to follow a pattern of obsessing on new and novel information to the exclusion of balance in training. Certainly, when I first learned about collection, I obsessed on it. Now I take a more balanced approach; the dog needs to know HOW to do it, and WHEN to do it if I specifically ask, but most of the time I am NOT asking for any collection at all, really - I'm telling the dog where to go and letting him decide how much he should collect or not. Of course, I can't do that if he doesn't have options at his disposal, but if I obsess on collection he will be just as limited in his options as he would be if I obsessed on extension...
