Fox has locked its orbit on "Spaced," a U.K. comedy being retooled for American auds.
Net has given a put pilot order to the project, originally created by the "Shaun of the Dead" and "Hot Fuzz" team of Simon Pegg and Edgar Wright (as well as Jessica Stevenson). "Will & Grace" alum Adam Barr is set to adapt the show for the U.S.

So much of why the show is great comes from Simon, Jess and Edgar (as well as the other cast members) and it's invested with so much love from them that I just hate the idea that it doesn't look like they were even given the courtesy of being told about this. From Edgar's MySpace it seems like they found out from the press releases and that's just plain rude imo.

Remaking Spaced is the worst idea in the long, sad history of bad idea.

Plus, Edgar's clearly not happy (understandably) and if he's not happy then I'm not happy.

I'd be royally pissed off too. I still can't get over the fact that they weren't told about this remake. I'm assuming that Paramount or C4 have the rights but it surely wouldn't be difficult to contact them (or agents) to let them know. Finding out stuff in the press sucks.

I'm kind of hoping it goes the same route as the American version of Red Dwarf.

Oh that was really bad from what I remember of clips way back when. I just can't see it working without it's original cast. And so much of it was about British urban life and I don't know if they can translate that and retain the feel of the show.

There is just so much that will be lost in translation, so to speak. Not to mention, no Simon, Edgar, Nick, Jessica or the rest. It just won't have the same heart and soul that the original did. It might work on its own level, but as its own show and not as a remake. This just makes me really sad and the fact that nobody contacted Edgar, Simon, or Jessica makes me really angry/disappointed.

Between this and the planned remake of Life on Mars, I just don't know what is wrong with people.

That's exactly what I think.

Edgar says that someone had already tried to make it before, without drugs or Mike loving guns. Down with McSpaced.

Tim: "I've always fancied myself as a soldier"
Mike: "I've always fancied you"
Tim: "Not now..."

Tim: "I'll have a pint of the blackstuff."
Mike: "You can't drink a pint of bovril"

Tim: "Are you ready Mike?"
Mike: "I was born ready Timmy!"
Tim: "Yeah, but are you ready now?"
Mike: "Uh...yeah!"

...sorry, I'm ignoring this so-called US version by quoting the original and best!
