That's a new one on me!

May 10, 2019 14:18

I just had an automated phonecall from BT. It said they'd been trying to contact me, my IP address had been compromised, and my internet connection would be shut off in 24 hours. Press 1 to speak to a technician.

I did nothing and the call was disconnected.

I googled and it's a scam. The next step would have been to let them access my pc.

scam, computer

Good to just hang up. I saw a report the other day that soon they will be hijacking our phones, though.

Next time don't listen to the whole call, as soon as it sounds dodgy hang up and google the number. In some countries you can be charged for accepting calls, especially if they go on, I've heard of folks racking up huge telephone bills that way. In any case the less time we all give to scammers and telemarketers, the better.

It didn't really give me a chance to hang up!

I had that call too. I feel sorry for those who fall for it. I don’t trust anyone on the phone.

I got a similar call purporting to be from Apple. There are days when I just want to give up my landline entirely--most of the calls I get there are scams.
