Until mum-in-law passed, we used to spend Christmas day with her one year and Boxing day with my parents, then swapped the following year. So presents from parents and mum-in-law were opened on the day we were with them/her - so over both days.
This (and last) year all presents were opened on the day, but we're thinking of going to my parents' on Boxing day next year, so we'll be back to being over both days again!!
I'm amazed Daisy doesn't open them for you. ;) How is the tree doing?
My family have always opened things in the afternoon. When I was a kid, we'd have stockings in the mornings, and then presents after lunch. We've kept the afternoon tradition, and it works well. My mother goes off to church in the morning, and my father argues with the television while I cook for them, and my sister usually hares cross country to get here. Never did understand the families who open everything the minute they get up. What do they do with the rest of the day?! It's a long day, and Doctor Who only fills a very litte bit of it. :)

Yours sounds like a nice tradition.
Daisy's ignored the tree since then. I think it's the rustling tinsel that gets her wild.

Would the carers not help you open the bigger/heavier ones?
