In the aftermath of Hurricane/Superstorm Sandy and New Jersey Transit's inability to restore full service more than three weeks after the storm, it has come out that the agency left $385 million worth of recently purchased trains parked in two rail yards that were expected to flood during the storm. When Nashville flooded the MTA didn't think they needed to move the buses which are housed just blocks from the river. We lost a ton of buses because they just couldn't be bothered to move them 50 yards.
